quick update

I don't do much on this blog these days; I decided to start one for book reviews, that one is called Book 'Im Dani if you want to check it out.

I did get a job, about a month ago, and I love it. It is part time Office Assistant at the Tacoma Daily Index. The hours are perfect, the atmosphere is wonderful, I just love it.

brief update

Who knew it would be so hard to find a job? Of course, I would prefer not to work at all, but come on, I am a hard worker and loyal to a fault, there's got to be something worthwhile for me out there. I am starting to think I will have to work at McDonald's, sigh. Some day I will get a job that I want, someday.

Another poem

I've written 3 whole poems this year, more than in the entire 15+ years prior. I am really on a roll, haha! I actually have been thinking about publishing them, though I think I am the only person who comes to my blog, so I don't know that there is any market out there for my poetry. Here's the latest, will probably be edited at some point, though:

Dreamer,
Rooted in the earth,
Who wants it all,
But knows it may never be,
Who stands tall,
But doesn't touch the sky,
Who sees the birds,
But dares not hope to fly.
She must break free,
So she can live to be.

new unfinished poems

I hadn't been inspired to write anything for over 15 years, and in the last couple months, 2 poems have popped into my head. I would not consider them completed, but want to get them down in a more permanent place so I don't lose them.

Poem 1
Are these voices or are they words,
These thoughts inside my head?
They swirl and they crash,
Like waves or like the wind.
When I open my mouth.
they don't come out
how they went in.

Poem 2
When I encounter beauty,
I stop and have delight;
I revel in the moment,
the vision of the day.
I ascend into the heavens,
and roar into the night,
I think about forever
and remember yesterday,
grateful for this instant
and hopeful for the next.

do what you love?

I have recently been seeing news, talking about 4 steps to having a more successful, fulfilling life and career. The first step is identifying what you love to do, and eventually you turn that into a unique job that will bring you satisfaction with life.

What I love to do is read books and watch TV. I really have no idea how I could turn that in to a career. I do have a creative writing degree, so the first job that pops out at me would be to be a critic, but when I do little reviews of the books and shows I like, they are very simplistic, "Oh, it was so good, you should see it/ read it." and would definitely not draw a paying audience.

I've started working on this blog as an effort to use my writing skills (or lack thereof). Maybe eventually I will be compelled to do some more intense writing that could go somewhere. But in the meantime, I am just writing for the exercise of writing. Hopefully it will help me get in shape.
